Jason Loughlin, Chief Operations Officer
As 2025 draws to a close, it feels like the right moment to pause and reflect on a year that has been defined by progress, discipline, and a quiet confidence in the foundations we are building. Across the business, the focus has been clear: strengthen how we operate, scale with intent, and ensure that growth never comes at the expense of quality, trust, or people.
This year was not about chasing headlines. It was about doing the work that makes everything else possible.
Building Systems That Work Harder Than We Do
A significant portion of 2025 was dedicated to improving how the business runs day to day. We invested heavily in smarter systems, better workflows, and meaningful automation across our operations. The goal was not speed for its own sake, but consistency, accuracy, and resilience.
These improvements have transformed how we handle volume, complexity, and scale. Tasks that once relied on manual intervention are now streamlined and reliable. Data flows more cleanly through the business. Teams have clearer visibility and better tools to do their jobs well. As a result, operations today feel calmer, more predictable, and better equipped to support a growing global marketplace.
Just as importantly, these systems have been built with the future in mind. They are designed to scale alongside the business, rather than needing to be reworked each time we grow.
Growth Supported by Strong Operational Foundations
Growth in 2025 was deliberate. By embedding automation into our core workflows and strengthening how responsibility is delegated across teams, we have created an operating model that is both robust and human.
This balance matters. Automation has removed friction and repetition, allowing teams to focus on problem-solving, relationships, and judgement. At the same time, clearer ownership across the organisation has reduced bottlenecks and increased accountability. The result is a business that can expand without losing the personal service and responsiveness our customers expect.
Strong foundations do not always show immediately from the outside, but they are felt every day by the people inside the business. This year, those foundations became noticeably stronger.
Collaboration as a Competitive Advantage
One of the most positive developments this year has been the deepening collaboration between our operational and commercial teams. System improvements were not designed in isolation. They were shaped by real conversations, real use cases, and real feedback from those closest to customers and transactions.
This alignment ensures that the tools we build actually solve problems, rather than simply looking good on paper. It has also fostered a shared sense of ownership across teams, where success is measured not by individual functions, but by outcomes for customers.
That level of collaboration is not accidental. It requires trust, openness, and a willingness to listen. It has become one of our strongest differentiators.
Delivering on Technology, Not Just Talking About It
2025 was a year of execution. Every milestone on our technology roadmap was delivered, and several major features were launched into the platform. Live shipment tracking and intelligent automation are already improving transparency, speed, and confidence for users across the marketplace.
These developments are practical rather than abstract. They remove uncertainty, reduce manual follow-up, and give customers clearer insight into what is happening with their material, in real time. Technology, when done properly, should simplify decision-making and build trust. That has been the guiding principle behind everything we launched this year.
Looking Ahead With Clarity
As we move into 2026, the direction is clear. Our focus remains on building trust in our global marketplace, where circularity and sustainability are the core values underpinning every action we take.
That means stronger international connections, enhanced data and insights, greater transparency, and long-term, dependable partnerships rather than short-term transactions.
The next phase of platform development will introduce end-to-end material traceability, improved material identification, and deeper analytical insight. These capabilities will allow customers to make more informed decisions, backed by measurable data and clear outcomes.
We enter the new year with momentum, confidence, and a team that understands both where we are going and how we intend to get there. The work done in 2025 has positioned us well, and the foundations laid this year will continue to support growth for years to come
Thank you to both the WasteTrade team and all our members who worked with us this year in accelerating the transition towards a fully circular economy with net zero waste.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
